Everybody should know by now that the government is back in full operation for a few more months.
I wonder if the Tea Bagger Republicans are planning on shutting down the government again? At a cost of how many more billions of dollars for us taxpayers to owe?
I would like to know when the next tax increase is going to happen, and it will, and how much it will be.
I can't think of much right now. I'll be back soon.
Hillary Clinton for President!

Government Shutdown
I just don't get it.
The Republican-led House has tried to kill the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, over forty times, without success.
Someone once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. By this definition the Republicans in the House must be insane.
They are still proving their insanity.
They tried extortion this time. Defund Obamacare or we'll shut down the government.
The Senate called their bluff and the government is now partially shutdown.
So what do the Republicans do? They keep trying to get changes to the ACA or they'll keep the government shutdown.
They've even gone further. Now they say, make changes to Obamacare or we'll cause the U.S. government to default on it's debt.
Still trying extortion to get their way. Insane, I tell you.
What the Republicans should do is immediately eject all the Tea Party Republicans from the Republican Party. They already consider themselves a separate political party, hence the name 'Tea Party'. Let them do their own thing.
Then they should vote on and pass a 'clean' Continuing Resolution and increase the debt limit. Nothing about the ACA should be included.
Then they can start talking about changes to the ACA.
Will they do anything I suggest here. I seriously doubt it.
Maybe after their bluff is called this time they'll realize they can't use extortion to get their way and do their jobs.

Arizona Government Idiocy
It's just one thing after another with this administration in Arizona.
The latest stupid thing is HB 2441, which the House passed. This piece of crap would require the political party committee for a Presidential Candidate to prove the candidate meets the U.S. Constitutional requirements for President of the U.S. before he/she can be listed on the ballot. Even then, the Arizona Secretary of State can still has the power to decide whether, or not, they are put on the ballot.
Huh? If this is allowed it could mean that any candidate for President will have to prove to every State, individually, that they are qualified.
The correct way to go about this would be to request a U.S. Constitutional Amendment that specifies how to, and who is responsible to, certify a person's qualifications for President.
Meanwhile, just do like was done prior to the last election, challenge the candidate to produce the proof if you have doubts.
Obama was challenged to produce his birth certificate, and he did so, you can see an authenticated copy here.

Arizona Government Hyprocrisy
On April 3, 2010 I blogged about Arizona wasting money to sue the feds, claiming the Health Care Reform violates the U.S. Constitution. Now the Arizona government is violating the Arizona Constitution.
The Arizona FY2011 Budget has been approved and signed by the governor of Arizona.
This budget violates Article 9 Section 5 of the Arizona Constitution, which I quote here:
Arizona Constitution Article 9 Section 5. Power of state to contract debts; purposes; limit; restrictions
Section 5. The state may contract debts to supply the casual deficits or failures in revenues, or to meet expenses not otherwise provided for; but the aggregate amount of such debts, direct and contingent, whether contracted by virtue of one or more laws, or at different periods of time, shall never exceed the sum of three hundred and fifty thousand dollars; and the money arising from the creation of such debts shall be applied to the purpose for which it was obtained or to repay the debts so contracted, and to no other purpose.
In addition to the above limited power to contract debts the state may borrow money to repel invasion, suppress insurrection, or defend the state in time of war; but the money thus raised shall be applied exclusively to the object for which the loan shall have been authorized or to the repayment of the debt thereby created. No money shall be paid out of the state treasury, except in the manner provided by law.
This is violated on Page 1 of the budget summary:
FY2011 Budget Summary Page 1
By November 2009, the State’s cash situation had deteriorated
to the point that it was forced to secure a $700 million line
of credit from a bank. In total, the General Fund has available
approximately $2.7 billion in borrowing capacity, both internal
and external to State government, but the cash situation is so
critical that it is monitored daily. Whether that borrowing capacity
will get the State through the year remains to be seen.
Simple math tells me that $700 million is a lot more than $350 thousand. Apparently the Arizona Governor, Legislature and others involved don't use the same math as the rest of us.
If the Arizona Constitution has been amended to increase the $350 thousand limit they are not making it easy for us to know that. The Arizona Constitution as shown on the State Legislature website still says $350,000.00.
In addition to all of this my understanding of the Arizona Constitution also requires that the budget be balanced, which it is not.
It's obvious to me that Arizona leaders have eliminated reality from government.

Health Care Reform Revisited
I am getting real tired of politicians claiming that 'the citizens have spoken', 'the American people are angry, uneasy or frustrated', etc.
I am a citizen, an American person, and I disagree with a lot of what they attribute to us. If they want to be truthful they would say some citizens or some American people. I don't know how they can claim to know what the American people want when so many of us want something else.
Most of the people I talk to are in favor of a government run health care plan. I know there are a lot of people that are not. But how can some of our Senators claim 'the American people' don't want it. From where I sit the majority do want it.
Since it is obvious (to me anyway) that the primary problem with our current health care system is the health insurance industry. The first thing to do to reform it is to eliminate the health insurance industry.
Health insurance companies are businesses that have only a single purpose, to make money. Our health care should not be based solely on profit motives. No problem with making money but what ever happened to customer service?
The patches most Republicans want to use to "fix" the health care in this country are just that, "patches". Like a hole in a tire they want to patch it. Sooner or later the tire still needs to be replaced. Our current health care system is broken beyond patching. It's time to replace the tire.
In order to "reform" the health care system we must replace it completely with another system. Otherwise it's not reform, it's just patching up a broken system thereby making it more complex and still in need of reform.
Another thing, why do some of our politicians keep claiming the U.S. has the best health care in the world? If that is true why do so many people go overseas, to places like Singapore, for their surgeries?
Both Senators from my State have made these claims. I don't know how many other Senators and Representatives have. I do resent them, though, especially when the politicians that claim to represent the people of my State make these untrue statements.

Health Care Reform
What is up with the Republican Senators & Representatives? It seems that most of them don't want health care reform.
Wake up people. Our current health care system is broken. Apparently there is no way to fix it. So get rid of it and replace it with another system. If that one doesn't work then it can be replaced again.
Some people claim that health care is not a right. Neither are streets, roads and highways. But we pay taxes and have the government take care of them because if we each had to pay for only what we used most of us could not afford it and the logistics of figuring out who pays what would be a nightmare. Just like our current health care system, a nightmare.
It doesn't matter if it's a right or not. What matters is that the current system is grossly inefficient, leaves a lot of people without proper health care and it costs too much.
I propose, as others already have, that we do away with the health insurance industry completely and replace it with a government run system based on the Veterans Administration health care system.
The V.A. health care system is very efficient and provides very good health care to a lot of veterans. The problems we hear about the V.A. health care is the approval process. In a national health care system the approval process for U.S. citizens would be very easy. Are you a citizen? Yes, you get health care. Are you not a citizen, but are working in the U.S. legally? Yes, you get health care. Are you here illegally? Yes, you do not get health care. This last one is the only one that would normally cause any problems.
Why is it that our roads are important enough to have the government take care of them but our health is not?
